Introducing Yogurt!

Introducing our well known friend, yogurt! Now, yogurt has its origin in many cultures; however, the name ‘yogurt’ comes from Turkey. When discussing yogurt, there are many different types or versions that may pop up into your head. However, when looking at history, in warmer regions thermophilic bacteria was favored. We know this as our dear Greek Yogurt. On the other hand, in cooler regions, mesophilic bacteria was favored. We know this by the name of Heirloom Yogurt. Yogurt is very popular within the U.S. and is the most fermented dairy product in the world! It is made by adding live bacteria into milk. Being very versatile, yogurt can be made into many different things such as a part of a meal, snack, sauce, and dessert. If you have ever eaten a cold dessert called ‘Froyo’ (short for Frozen Yogurt), then you have had some sort of introduction to this yummy treat! (Source).

Yogurt’s Nutritional Facts

To start off, just to throw it out there, if lactose intolerant, yogurt may be an issue, as the base of it is milk (dairy). Aside from that and getting into the nutritional facts, 100 grams of yogurt contain 61 calories, 3.5 grams of protein, 3.3 grams of fat, 4.7 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of fiber, and 4.7 grams of sugar. Extremely healthy for your baby, yogurt provides a very rich source of proteins in addition to full-fat yogurts containing every nutrient your body needs! Amazing, right? Yogurt also contains probiotics, which is good bacteria; this good bacteria is good for the gut and aids in digestive health amongst other benefits. Also, yogurt surely boosts immune system health and fights against diarrhea (again, unless you are lactose intolerant). And with the base being milk, yogurt aids in strong bone health.
